Muscat: The Oman national football team is all set to return to action in March following the Eid break with preparations scheduled to resume during the upcoming Fifa international window. The Red Warriors will gear up for their next major assignment at the Fifa Series 2026 which will be scheduled during March and April.

Oman team head coach Carlos Queiroz is currently closely monitoring player performances in the Jindal League, as part of the technical staff’s ongoing assessment process. The Portuguese tactician is also expected to attend the HM Cup final between Al Nahda and Oman Club, scheduled to take place on February 14, as he will continue to evaluate domestic talents ahead of squad selection.

On Thursday, Queiroz was attending a coordination meeting at the Hormuz Grand Hotel with the Chairman of the Oman Football Association (OFA), Sayyid Sulaiman bin Hamoud al Busaidy and OFA Vice-Chairman Qutaiba bin Said al Ghilani. The meeting focused on the national team’s technical road map and upcoming international commitments.

Speaking to Oman Observer following the meeting, Al Ghilani reaffirmed OFA’s full confidence in the current coaching setup. “I would like to confirm that national team head coach Carlos Queiroz remains in charge of the Oman team in accordance with the signed contract. Any reports suggesting otherwise are inaccurate”, he said.

He added that coordination meetings between OFA officials and the coaching staff are held regularly to ensure alignment on technical plans and performance objectives. “The national team will re-group before the end of March during the Fifa days. The coach will continue to closely follow domestic competitions as part of the preparation process for the Fifa Series 2026”, Al Ghilani concluded.

The Fifa Series 2026 is a global initiative featuring friendly mini-tournaments, designed to provide national teams with competitive international exposure without adding pressure to the congested calendar. All matches will be officially broadcast, with detailed schedules to be announced by Fifa in due course.

The tournament will serve as a vital preparatory platform for Oman as the Red Warriors look ahead to a demanding international agenda, including the AFC Asian Cup 2027 in early January, the West Asian Championship in Salalah in August and the Gulf Cup in Saudi Arabia from September 23 to October 6.
