Muscat: On the occasion of World Cancer Day, Ministry of Health (MoH) renewed calls for early detection and the adoption of a healthy lifestyle, stressing that timely screening and preventive care can save lives.
According to cancer statistics for 2021, breast cancer ranked as the most common type among women in the Sultanate of Oman, with 393 recorded cases.
This was followed by thyroid cancer (196 cases), colorectal cancer (93 cases), lymphoma (66 cases) and brain cancer (64 cases).
Among men, colorectal cancer was the most prevalent, accounting for 121 cases, followed by lymphoma (79 cases), prostate cancer (77 cases), thyroid cancer (66 cases) and leukaemia (65 cases).
Health officials emphasised that behind every diagnosis lies a human story, underscoring the importance of community solidarity and collective responsibility in supporting patients and their families.
They reiterated that early screening, regular medical check-ups and maintaining a healthy lifestyle, including balanced nutrition, physical activity and avoiding risk factors play a crucial role in reducing cancer-related complications and improving survival rates.
The ministry urged the public not to delay seeking medical advice, highlighting that awareness and early intervention remain among the most effective tools in the fight against cancer.
