MUSCAT: Represented by the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA), the Sultanate of Oman is hosting a two-day workshop on a framework for Air Traffic Contingency Management in the Middle East region (ME). The workshop, organised by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), began in Muscat on Wednesday.

The workshop reviews the requirements and objectives of emergency planning adopted by the ICAO, the working mechanism of the ICAO Crisis Coordination Team and the experiences of ME adjoining regions, namely Asia and the Pacific.

The workshop will deal with the new emergency framework for managing air traffic in ICAO regions, with emphasis on cross-border coordination, emergency plans among neighbouring countries and regions, automated connectivity, information exchange and operational challenges. It also seeks ways to achieve the goals of ICAO Project 30/10, which aims to cut down longitudinal distances between flights crossing regions.
