

MUSCAT: The Supreme Judiciary Council on Tuesday held its first meeting in 2026 under the chairmanship of Sayyid Mohammed bin Sultan al Busaidy, Deputy Chairman of the Supreme Judiciary Council.
At the outset of the meeting, the Council valued efforts made during the past year, including the smooth functioning of the judicial system, promptitude in the settlement of legal cases, the stability of judicial rulings and accelerated digital transition featuring the expansion of electronic services extended to members of the public at the courts, the Public Prosecution Department and the offices of the Notary Public.
The Council members also reviewed a report on the progress of work at the Investment and Commerce Court, which started its duties recently. The court aims to establish a specialised judicial system for regulating investment and commercial cases, enhancing the business environment and providing strong guarantees for investors.
During the meeting, the Council discussed decisions and issues related to administrative, financial, and professional affairs of judges and members of the Public Prosecution Department. The meeting also dealt with matters related to the regulation of judicial action, the development of laws and the improvement of the quality of judicial services. - ONA
