MUSCAT: The Oman Basketball Association (OBA) continued its efforts to promote the game and strengthen its community presence by organising the Second Sohar Festival Championship, alongside the 3x3 Basketball Championship for Athlete Development Centres, as part of the sporting activities accompanying the Sohar Festival. The competitions were held in a vibrant and competitive atmosphere, with strong crowd attendance reflecting the growing popularity of basketball across the governorates of the Sultanate of Oman.


The matches took place on the mobile court at the Sohar Entertainment Centre in Sohar, where visitors enthusiastically engaged with the games. The venue transformed into a lively sporting hub, full of energy and movement, embodying the spirit and ambition of youth.


Before the awards ceremony, held under the patronage of Eng Khalfan bin Saleh al Naabi, Chairman of the Association, spectators witnessed the decisive finals of both tournaments.


3x3 Centres Final


The final of the Athlete Development Centres 3x3 Championship was intense and evenly matched, featuring a showdown between Al Nujoum (The Stars) and Fast Break. The game was marked by high tempo, disciplined defence, and quick offensive transitions. Both teams exchanged points throughout the contest, before Al Nujoum capitalised on key opportunities in the closing minutes to secure an 8–6 victory and claim the title.


Sohar Festival Final


Meanwhile, the final of the Second Sohar Festival Championship brought together Old School and Super Science in a thrilling and closely contested encounter. Both sides delivered a strong technical performance, showcasing experience and composure, with continuous scoring exchanges and solid defensive displays. In the decisive moments, Old School asserted their advantage to seal a 14–11 win and lift the championship trophy.


At the conclusion of the competitions, Eng Khalfan al Naabi crowned the winning teams. In the 3x3 Centres Championship, Al Nujoum secured first place after an impressive performance throughout the tournament, while Fast Break finished second and Sohar claimed third place.


In the Second Sohar Festival Championship, Old School lifted the title, with Super Science settling for second place and Al Salam completing the podium in third.


The organisation of both tournaments comes as part of the Association’s strategy to expand participation, discover young talent, promote a culture of competition, and support community and sporting events that contribute to energising the sports movement in the wilayat, while reinforcing basketball’s position as an accessible and inclusive sport for all.
