Muscat: Oman has issued its first professional licences to school bus captains as part of a national initiative aimed at enhancing safety standards and improving the efficiency of school transport services.

The initiative was implemented through a strategic partnership involving the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Labour, and the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology, represented by the Oman Logistics Center and the Oman Logistics Association. The programme was delivered by Mwasalat Training Institute.

According to the organisers, a comprehensive training programme was carried out in the initial phase to qualify 100 school bus captains and five supervisors. The programme focused on preventive driving, student safety, compliance with professional standards, and improving the overall quality of school transport services.

As part of the programme, participating bus captains received a professional licence issued by the Oman Logistics Association, along with a certified training certificate from the Ministry of Labour. Officials said the initiative reflects a broader effort to regulate the profession and ensure that school transport personnel meet approved competency and safety standards.

Mwasalat Training Institute stated that the programme was designed based on real operational needs and delivered to the highest standards, with the aim of ensuring safe and efficient transport for students across the Sultanate.

Authorities indicated that the initiative represents an important step towards strengthening school transport safety and professionalising the sector, with further phases expected to follow.
