SALALAH: Huawei ICT Academy was opened on Wednesday in the Wilayat of Salalah, in coordination with the University of Technology and Applied Sciences (UTAS) in Salalah.

The opening ceremony was held under the auspices of HH Sayyid Marwan bin Turki al Said, Governor of Dhofar.

Dr Ahmed bin Ali al Shahri, Assistant Vice-Chancellor of the University in Salalah, said in a speech that Huawei ICT Academy was established as part of a strategic cooperation aimed to achieve the objectives of Oman Vision 2040, namely in building future digital skills and enhancing integration between education outputs and industry needs.

Al Shahri pointed out that Huawei ICT Academy will open up vistas for practical training, enable students to obtain internationally recognised certificates, enhance their readiness to join the labour market and grant them confidence to compete in their career path. He added that the Academy serves as the first Huawei-accredited training centre for obtaining the “Huawei Certified ICT Associate” (HCIA) certificate in Dhofar Governorate. Mazin bin Salim al Hinai, Director of Public Relations at Huawei in the Sultanate of Oman, said that the Academy’s programme offers training opportunities for students in major technical fields, including networks, cloud computing, Artificial Intelligence (AI), cybersecurity and software development.

The opening programme included a visual presentation on relations between the Sultanate of Oman and the People’s Republic of China. — ONA
