The Dubai Kitesurf Competition, organised by Dubai International Marine Club, held on January 16, welcomed elite and emerging kitesurfers from across the region for one of the season’s most competitive marine sports events.
The competition featured multiple disciplines, including Freestyle and Course Race, with athletes competing across several divisions such as the Senior Men’s category. Riders were tested on technical execution, speed, balance, and adaptability, as fluctuating wind conditions added an extra layer of challenge throughout the event.
Omani athletes recorded a notable presence at the competition, reflecting the steady growth of kitesurfing in Oman and the increasing participation of its riders in high-profile regional events. Competing against experienced international athletes, Omani riders gained valuable exposure and competitive experience.
Among the Omani participants, Almakhtar Almujaini competed in the Senior Men’s division, finishing 10th overall in a highly competitive field. His performance across the event’s disciplines demonstrated consistency and resilience under demanding conditions.
Almakhtar highlighted the challenge and value of the experience, saying: “I was very excited to take part in this competition, and Alhamdulillah I achieved third place in freestyle and sixth place in the course race. The event was very challenging due to the strong wind conditions and the high level of competition. Next time, I will give my best and aim for first place.”
The participation of Omani riders in events such as the Dubai Kitesurf Competition underlines the importance of regional competitions in developing talent, raising performance standards, and strengthening ties between Gulf sports communities.
As Oman continues to invest in water sports and athlete development, increased representation at international and regional competitions is expected to play a key role in advancing the country’s presence on the marine sports stage.
