MUSCAT: OQ Refineries and Petroleum Industries (OQRPI), a subsidiary of OQ, Oman's global energy investment group, delivered exceptional operational performance in 2025, achieving a series of record results in crude oil refining, processing rates and petrochemical production, marking a defining milestone in the company’s industrial journey.

The company recorded its highest-ever crude oil refining volume of 93 million barrels. In December 2025, it also achieved a record monthly processing rate of 8.37 million barrels, reflecting the efficiency and reliability of its refining operations.

In petrochemicals, annual polypropylene production reached around 317,000 metric tonnes, the highest output since commissioning, with December 2025 marking the strongest monthly performance. Production at the OQ Polymer Complex exceeded one million tonnes during the year, surpassing the planned target of 870,000 tonnes. This was attributed to early completion of scheduled maintenance, improved asset management and enhanced operational readiness.

These results highlight the pivotal role of OQ Refineries and Petroleum Industries within the integrated OQ ecosystem, acting as a key link between upstream energy production and downstream industries.

Beyond refining crude oil, the company converts its outputs into petrochemical products that support packaging, construction and consumer goods industries. This enhances the value of each barrel and supports the transition from crude exports to higher-value-added manufacturing.

The approach strengthens the local manufacturing base by supplying stable, competitive industrial inputs, attracting new investment, supporting small and medium-sized enterprises and increasing local added value in line with Oman Vision 2040.

Commercially, OQ has expanded its global footprint, exporting products to more than 80 countries and building a network of over 3,000 business partners across energy, trading and manufacturing. This reflects international confidence in product quality and operational reliability, boosts the competitiveness of Omani exports and supports foreign revenue inflows into the national economy.

In 2025, OQ Refineries and Petrochemicals recorded its first-ever profit, reflecting strong financial performance, asset efficiency and the success of its strategy to maximise value from natural resources.

This achievement represents a qualitative shift in the company’s business model and reinforces its role in supporting downstream industries, marking a turning point in its path towards long-term financial sustainability.

CEO Kamil bin Bakheet al Shanfari said the results demonstrate the company’s commitment to executing operational plans and improving asset efficiency. During 2025, OQ focused on enhancing operational reliability and proactive maintenance, enabling it to achieve record production levels and exceed targets, strengthening its contribution to Oman’s energy and downstream sectors.

He added that the company produces a wide range of strategic products serving local, regional and global markets, including fuels, LPG, naphtha, jet fuel, diesel, fuel oils and petrochemicals, notably polypropylene used in packaging, piping, medical and consumer goods industries. This strengthens Oman’s role in global supply chains and enhances export competitiveness.

Al Shanfari said these efforts are complemented by initiatives to enable downstream investment, particularly the Plastics Programme, which aims to attract investors to establish manufacturing facilities using OQ products. This supports industrial depth, self-sufficiency, higher-value exports, job creation and sustainable industrial growth. — ONA
