MUSCAT: Yousef bin Abdullah al Jahwari, the founder and CEO of Al Madar Ceramics Factory in Al Suwaiq, stated in an interview with the Observer that handcrafted products bring value to the local market due to their high quality and unique Omani heritage.
The production of ceramic products is a specialised Omani craft that focuses on creating pottery using innovative and advanced techniques to produce modern shapes with a traditional touch. These ceramic products, known for their quality, professionalism and sustainability, are based on traditional Omani designs that have been reimagined to meet market demands. This reflects the factory's main goal of offering distinctive, high-quality ceramic products.
Al Jahwari started his ceramics project in 2001 as a personal endeavour, initially learning and experimenting on his own while facing challenges in acquiring tools and materials. He began by designing and crafting ceramics, presenting two gifts to the late His Majesty Sultan Qaboos, who praised and encouraged him to continue. With his growing expertise and creativity in ceramics, Yousef established an Omani factory that employs local talent and offers a variety of products, including cups, dinnerware sets, gifts, vases and ceramic medallions.
Al Madar Factory is a specialised Omani industrial facility that aims to provide high-quality products following strict professional standards, focusing on continuous improvement and best industry practices. The factory operates with a clear vision to support the local market, enhance the value of its products, and contribute to the industrial sector's development through skilled personnel and well-thought-out operational plans. It is dedicated to combining quality, sustainability, and innovation to earn customer trust and build long-term partnerships. The products are exported to all Gulf countries, and the factory has also established suppliers and new relationships with European and American markets.
Al Jahwari commended his transition from craftsman to business leader through continuous development and establishing new global relationships. He said, "We have design, development, and quality control departments that have strengthened our market position and allowed us to evolve from a small-scale craftsman to an institution with Omani employees. This is a significant and positive contribution to the ceramics industry market." He also expressed gratitude for the support received from government and private entities, including the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Authority, for financial and administrative assistance.
To train and develop Omani employees, Al Madar has a specialised training department for new employees and offers training courses in ceramics manufacturing. Al Jahwari believes that the future of Omani crafts is promising, thanks to ongoing development and extensive government support.
