

MUSCAT: The Omani rally drivers participating in the first round of the Middle East Rally Championship, hosted by the Wilayat of Suhar at the end of this week, extended their thanks and appreciation to the management of the Oman Automobile Association (OAA) for supporting them to take part in this rally. This support helped ease the financial burden on these young participants, who have shown full readiness to actively participate and represent the Sultanate of Oman in this important sporting event.
and to compete with their counterparts from the other participating countries to achieve front positions according to the participating categories.
This initiative by the management of the OAA comes as an encouragement for Omani champions to continue practicing this sport, which is well known across the Middle East, especially since Oman was among the first countries to host the Middle East Rally Championship successfully since the 1970s, as acknowledged by all.
The association provided support to around nine Omani drivers in the car category to ensure optimal preparation for competing in the opening round of the championship. It also offered financial support to Can-Am motorcycle competitors, in line with their counterparts among car drivers.
Oman International Rally is being held for the second consecutive year in Suhar, having achieved great success last year in terms of organisation and hosting, and also witnessed intense competition for the championship title and leadership across the various categories in the rally.
Regarding the support provided to the competitors, rally driver Ghaith al Qasimi says: “On behalf of the Omani competitors, we would like to thank the management of the Oman Automobile Association for standing behind the Omani drivers and providing financial support for participating in this rally, which has removed many of the obstacles facing drivers, represented by providing race requirements such as tyres, necessary spare parts for the cars and other requirements.”
