MUSCAT: In partnership with bp Oman, MEDRC held a graduation ceremony marking the closing of the TAHLYA VII programme, under the auspices of Khalid bin Hashil al Muselhi, Under-Secretary of the Foreign Ministry for Administrative and Financial Affairs. This year, a total of 81 Omanis graduated – that’s 41 supervisors and 40 operators graduating from the programme.
TAHLYA VII is the seventh cycle of the vocational training programme which aims at building the capacity of young Omanis and equipping them with the necessary skills to advance in the desalination sector in Oman.
Ibrahim al Hinai, Social Investment Manager at bp Oman, Kuwait and Qatar, commented: “The TAHLYA programme underscores bp’s commitment in Oman towards developing local talent to support the country’s socioeconomic growth. The programme has successfully contributed towards developing a skilled national workforce in the field of desalination. Through partnerships such as this, we aim to create long-term value by empowering young Omanis with the competencies needed to lead future industries in Oman.”
Ciarán Ó Cuinn, MEDRC Centre Director, commented: “The TAHLYA programme is about the rapid training of job-seekers for the high-tech industry. What bp Oman and MEDRC have put together in the desalination sector in Oman can be replicated across any high-tech sector. As we work to implement Oman Vision 2040, the TAHLYA approach will prove more necessary and valuable. In just a few short years, we have enabled the water sector in Oman to be largely managed and operated by highly trained, world-class Omani plant managers and operators. Through this programme, we have shown that the young Omani job-seekers can lead, manage and operate these sectors completely and rapidly. I want to commend each and every one of our graduates. They are a credit to their families, schools and universities. They join hundreds of former TAHLYA graduates now running the desalination sector in Oman and across the GCC.”
