Muscat: Majlis Ash’shura hosted the Minister of Labour during its regular sessions.

According to the minister, the Omanisation rate in the private sector stood at 15.5 per cent of the total workforce of 1,859,206 workers as of October 2025.

The study has been completed on raising the minimum wage and is being reviewed by the relevant authorities, the minister said.

"The Ministry completed the review after consultations with stakeholders on the possibility of raising the minimum wage to achieve a just standard of living, or adjusting the level of increase to ensure market stability and consideration of prevailing economic conditions. It is expected to be approved by the relevant authorities soon," he said.

During the sessions, the minister also discussed labour policies and reviewed the Ministry of Labour’s plans under the Tenth Five-Year Plan (2021–2025) and Oman Vision 2040.

A committee has been formed to study the promotion mechanism, which is linked to the Ejada system, and those who receive an outstanding evaluation will benefit.

Several initiatives, Omanisation, and replacement programs in the Tenth Five-Year Plan have helped to create job opportunities.

Regarding the reasons for terminating the service of Omani workers, the end of the contract period accounted for 54.5 per cent, followed by the completion of projects at 29.7 per cent, while arbitrary dismissal represented 9.6 per cent.

Discussions also covered employment in the public and private sectors, digital transformation initiatives, and legislation regulating work in both sectors.

The minister also highlighted the Ministry’s efforts to establish a national database for the labour force and electronically link it with various entities.

The labor market faced a real challenge in absorbing more employees, whether in terms of finding new opportunities or transferring the workforce from one company to another, amid economic conditions.

The total number of job seekers is 73,319, including 38,428 females. Females (18,320) top among the university graduates job seekers, while males (20,216) are the highest among those with the General Education Diploma (GED).
