Muscat Nights to conduct a series of sporting events

Muscat - The sports program in Muscat Nights 2026 will witness a diversity in terms of the number of tournaments, the variety of games, and locations, in a step aimed at enhancing sports and youth activity, and attracting local and international participation.

Hussain bin Saeed al Rumhi, supervisor of sports events at Muscat Nights 2026, said, “Those in charge of the events were keen in the Muscat Nights 2026 edition to present a comprehensive package of sports tournaments that address different age groups and interests, and combine individual and team sports, in addition to open community events.”

He explained that the 12th International Shotokan Center Karate Championship will be held from January 30 to 31, 2026, at the Ahli Sidab Club, with wide participation from players representing different karate schools, noting that the championship is one of the oldest and most important combat championships accompanying the Muscat Nights events.

He added that Muscat Nights will witness the organization of the second edition of the Muscat Nights International Open Bowling Championship during the period from January 8 to 19, 2026 at the Seeb Bowling Center, after the great success achieved by the first edition in terms of attendance and international participation.

Regarding team sports, he said that the Muscat International 3x3 Basketball Tournament for men and women will be held at Al Araimi Boulevard from January 22 to 24, 2026, with January 22 being allocated for the local tournament, while the international competitions will be held on January 23 and 24.

He added that Muscat Nights will witness the organization of the second edition of the Muscat Nights International Open Bowling Championship during the period from January 8 to 19, 2026, at the Seeb Bowling Center, after the great success achieved by the first edition in terms of attendance and international participation.

Regarding team sports, he said that the Muscat International 3x3 Basketball Tournament for men and women will be held at Al Araimi Boulevard from January 22 to 24, 2026, with January 22 being allocated for the local tournament, while the international competitions will be held on January 23 and 24.

On the side of mind games, he pointed to the organization of the second edition of the Muscat International Chess Nights Championship during the period from January 15 to 23, 2026 at Al Amal Club, which will witness the holding of three tournaments: Open A, Open B and Blitz, with the participation of 266 players representing 37 countries, stressing that the tournament represents an important platform for discovering talents and refining the abilities of players.

He explained that the Muscat Nights program also includes the Muscat Nights International Billiards and Snooker Championship during the period from January 14 to 18, 2026 at the Arena Club – Active Oman, noting the outstanding success achieved by the previous edition with the participation of 124 male and female players representing 15 countries, and expecting that the 2026 edition will witness a larger and more diverse participation, as the number of participants is expected to rise to 250 players from around the world.

He explained that participation will include, in addition to the Gulf and Arab countries, other countries such as Malaysia, South Korea, India and Thailand, which reflects the increasing status of the tournament at the international level, in addition to a strong presence from the Gulf countries such as the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the State of Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, the Kingdom of Bahrain and the State of Kuwait, along with Arab countries such as Egypt and Jordan.

Hussain Al-Rumhi said that the Muscat Nights will witness the holding of the Open Water Swimming Championship on January 9 and 10, 2026, at Sur Al Hadid Beach.

He added that Muscat Nights pays special attention to community events, as it is organizing the Muscat Nights Fun Run competition for a distance of 5 kilometers on January 23, 2026, at Sur Al Hadid Beach, with the aim of spreading the culture of sports and promoting a healthy lifestyle.

In closing, he mentioned the organization of the Muscat Nights Traditional Shooting Championship at the traditional shooting range in Al Amerat State during the period from January 29 to 31, 2026, in addition to the horse show event that will be held behind Al Amerat Park on January 16.

He also noted the inclusion of traditional games in the state of Qurayyat, which are held on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays of each week during the festival period, and include games such as: Al-Hawalis, Al-Qari’,a and Daq Al-Hasa, in addition to football, volleyball, Tek-ball and tug-of-war, stressing that these events reflect the Omani cultural identity and contribute to enhancing community participation.
