

Muscat: The Minister of Interior, Sayyid Hamoud bin Faisal Busaidi, issued Ministerial Decision No. 92/2014, detailing the Executive Regulations of the Omani Nationality Law. This decision is based on Royal Decree No. 38/2014. A fee of RO 600 has been fixed for an application to obtain Omani nationality (through naturalisation) and RO 300 for an application by a foreign woman married to an Omani, or the widow/divorcee of an Omani.
The regulations state that applications related to nationality matters must be submitted to the application office in the Department. The Department is responsible for studying applications for obtaining, renouncing, or regaining nationality.
General Conditions
* All documents and papers submitted must be in Arabic.
* Applicants for Omani nationality or its restoration must appear before the Department to undergo the required tests (Arabic language or others).
Renouncing Nationality
An application to renounce Omani nationality must be submitted to the Department, accompanied by proof of obtaining another nationality or documents confirming the grant of another country’s nationality, provided that the prescribed fees are paid.
Restoring Nationality
Anyone who has lost Omani nationality or renounced it to acquire another nationality may apply to restore it, provided they meet certain conditions, including permanent residence in the Sultanate of Oman for at least two years and proof of renouncing the other nationality.
Nationality for a Foreign Woman Married to an Omani:
A foreign woman who is the wife of an Omani man has the right to apply for Omani nationality under the following conditions:
1. The marriage must have taken place with the prior approval of the Ministry of Interior (if required by law).
2. She must have been married and residing in the Sultanate with her husband for at least 10 years.
3. She must have an Omani son with her Omani husband.
4. She must have good conduct and no prior convictions for crimes involving moral turpitude or dishonesty.
Nationality for a Foreigner Married to an Omani Woman
The marriage must have been approved by the Ministry.
