Sister of Indian singer dies while trekking in Oman

Muscat: Sharada Iyer, the sister of a popular Indian playback singer, Chitra Iyer, died on January 2, while on a trekking expedition near Jabal Shams. 

"My sister Sharada passed away yesterday afternoon, around 2 PM local time, in a freak accident while on a trekking expedition in the hills in Muscat, Oman. We are all heartbroken and deeply sad, and grieving," the singer said in a statement.

She previously worked with the national airline, Oman Air and is resident of the Sultanate of Oman.

Sharada had returned to Oman on December 24 after travelling to India to attend her father's funeral, who died on December 11.

 Separate incident

The Civil Defense and Ambulance Administration (CDAA) in the South Al Sharqiyah Governorate recently rescued a woman who fell while practicing mountain hiking in Wadi Shab in the Tiwi Wilayat, by providing emergency medical care, and transferred her to the hospital for treatment.
