

Muscat: At the invitation of the Asian Aquatics, Oman's international open water swimming referee, Abdulmunim bin Khamis al Alawi, who holds a gold card in refereeing according to the World Athletics classification, will officiate the open water swimming competition at the sixth Asian Beach Games, to be held in Sanya, Hainan Province, China, from April 22 to 30, 2026. Abdulmunim al Alawi possesses extensive experience spanning approximately 40 years in swimming refereeing, enabling him to officiate in various international and world championships. He began his swimming refereeing career in 1986, during which he completed numerous training and technical courses in the field of swimming refereeing, which contributed to honing his skills and preparing him to represent the Sultanate of Oman.
Al Alawi has previously managed many open water swimming competitions during the beach games at the regional and international levels. He was the technical director for the swimming competition at the second Asian Beach Games held in Muscat in 2010, and also served as the technical director for the swimming competition at the first World Beach Games held in Doha in 2019. He was the general referee for the swimming competition at the Asian Games held in Hangzhou (China) in 2022. In addition, he officiated open water swimming at three Olympic Games, Rio 2016, Tokyo 2020 and Paris 2024, as well as open water swimming races at the World Aquatics Championships from 2007 in Melbourne (Australia) to the 2025 World Championship held in Singapore.
