A series of development, service and investment projects valued at around RO 9 million are being implemented in Al Jabal Al Akhdhar as part of the Al Dakhiliyah Governorate’s efforts to strengthen tourism infrastructure, enhance public services and improve quality of life.
Shaikh Sultan bin Mansoor al Ghufaili, Wali of Al Jabal Al Akhdhar, said the projects aim to upgrade transport networks, expand recreational facilities and attract private investment, reinforcing the Wilayat’s position as one of Oman’s leading mountain tourism destinations.
Among the most significant initiatives is the development of the Wilayat’s main entrance and the dualisation of the primary access road, which has reached the final stages of consultancy work.
Several internal roads have already been paved, while additional road projects remain under tender.
These upgrades are expected to improve traffic safety, accessibility and connectivity to residential and tourist sites.
Al Ghufaili highlighted the completion of key community projects, including Green Mountain Park, a public recreational space that enhances liveability and the Festivals and Celebrations Square, which provides a structured venue for seasonal events.
The latter supports entrepreneurs and small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) through integrated service facilities that contribute to local economic activity.
Private sector investment is also gaining momentum, with major projects underway, most notably an integrated commercial complex in Hail Al Yaman.
The development includes a three-star hotel, educational park, entertainment centre and shopping mall, broadening the range of services available to visitors.
Additional projects include a 3D-themed open-air plaza in Saih Qatna, Da’an Al-Busaiteen Park and the development of Saih Qatna Park, which will feature recreational areas, a restaurant and a mountain viewpoint designed to capitalise on the region’s distinctive landscape.
At the strategic level, Al Ghufaili described the High Mountain Tourist City as one of the most ambitious projects in Al Jabal Al Akhdhar. With estimated development and investment costs of RO 1.2 billion, the project spans more than 11.8 square kilometres at an altitude of nearly 2,400 metres above sea level.
The development will include over 2,500 residential units housing approximately 10,000 residents, a hotel complex with more than 2,000 rooms, the region’s highest golf course covering around 1.5 million square metres and more than 10 cultural, architectural and tourism landmarks.
Built on sustainability and green economy principles, the project will utilise renewable energy and smart, low-emission transport solutions. A cable car system linking Al Dakhiliyah and Al Batinah South Governorates is also planned, enhancing access to the destination.
Al Ghufaili stressed that all projects are being implemented with respect for the mountain environment, aiming to diversify income sources, create sustainable employment and strengthen Al Jabal Al Akhdhar’s status as a premier tourism and development hub in the Sultanateof Oman.
