Muscat: The Omani national weightlifting team delivered an impressive performance in its recent participation in the Qatar Cup, Arab Cup, and West Asia Championships, all hosted in the Qatari capital Doha, after producing high-level technical displays that resulted in a total of 17 medals, reflecting the remarkable development of the sport in Oman at both regional and international levels.

The team’s medal haul included 10 gold, 4 silver, and 3 bronze medals, an achievement that highlights the tremendous efforts of the athletes, alongside the technical and administrative work and the continuous support enjoyed by the team.

INDIVIDUAL BRILLIANCE AND NOTABLE ACHIEVEMENTS

In the details, lifter Elias al Busaidy stood out in the 71 kg category at the West Asia Championship, where he won three silver medals after a strong competitive performance against some of the region’s top lifters.

Meanwhile, Mahmoud al Battashi, competing in the 79 kg category, added two bronze medals to Oman’s tally in the clean and jerk and the total at the West Asia Championship, underlining his presence in one of the most competitive weight classes.

The standout achievement came from Amer al Khanjari, who dominated the 88 kg category, claiming nine gold medals three each at the Arab Championship, the West Asia Championship, and the Qatar Cup, in an exceptional display that reflected his high level and technical consistency.

In addition, Murshid al Ajmi competed in the 94 kg senior category at the West Asia Championship and secured three medals (gold, silver, and bronze), further reinforcing the team’s strong performances across multiple weight divisions.

With these results, the national team concluded its Doha campaign with a total of 17 medals, 10 gold, 4 silver, and 3 bronze, once again confirming the growing status of Omani weightlifting on the regional competitive map.

It is worth noting that the Omani delegation to the Qatar Cup, Arab Cup, and West Asia Championships was headed by Lt Col Fahd al Ghammari, Chairman of the Oman Weightlifting and Powerlifting Committee, alongside Badr al Wuhaibi, Secretary of the Committee.
