MUSCAT: The Ministry of Energy and Minerals, through the Oman Net Zero Centre, has organised an introductory workshop for officials from the Foreign Ministry and overseas diplomatic missions, aimed at strengthening institutional understanding of Oman’s net-zero agenda and enhancing international cooperation and investment promotion in low-carbon sectors.
The workshop focused on outlining the mandate and responsibilities of the Oman Net Zero Centre, as well as its role in supporting the national transition towards emissions reduction. Participants were briefed on the national, regional and international dimensions of net-zero concepts, with the objective of improving coordination and integration among government entities involved in climate and sustainability initiatives.
A key objective of the workshop was to equip diplomatic missions with the knowledge required to promote Oman as an attractive destination for investments in clean energy and low-carbon technologies. The sessions highlighted priority investment opportunities in these sectors, reinforcing Oman’s presence and engagement in global climate action platforms.
Mohsin al Jabri, Director General of the Oman Net Zero Centre, said the workshop forms part of broader efforts to establish a unified understanding among Foreign Ministry staff and diplomatic missions regarding the Sultanate of Oman’s priorities in achieving net-zero emissions. He stressed that the next phase requires closer coordination between national institutions and diplomatic bodies to deliver a clear and consistent message in regional and international forums.
He added that enhancing awareness of Oman’s targets, policies and flagship net-zero projects among diplomatic missions will directly support efforts to attract high-quality investments in low-carbon technologies. Such initiatives, he noted, will also strengthen international partnerships, enhance the competitiveness of the national economy and align Oman with global energy transition trends.
The workshop also featured discussions on coordination mechanisms between the Oman Net Zero Centre and the Foreign Ministry, the importance of standardising diplomatic messaging on net zero and improving institutional readiness to engage with environmental and climate issues at the international level.
This initiative forms part of the Ministry of Energy and Minerals’ broader efforts to strengthen government integration and advance national programmes aimed at achieving net-zero emissions by 2050, in line with the objectives of Oman Vision 2040.
