Salalah -Salalah Airport in the Dhofar Governorate today received the first direct flight of Oman Air, the national carrier of the Sultanate of Oman, from the Russian capital, Moscow. The seasonal direct air services between the two destinations will operate at a rate of two flights per week.

A reception was held at Salalah Airport, in the presence of Excellency Dr. Ahmed bin Mohsen al Ghassani, Chairman of Dhofar Municipality, and in the presence of several dignitaries, officials, and representatives of the aviation and tourism sectors in the Sultanate of Oman.

Ahmed bin Ali al Mahrouqi, vice president of sales at Oman Air, said that the launch of direct charter flights between Moscow and Salalah comes within the framework of the company’s strategic direction towards developing key markets with promising potential and providing direct and dedicated air connectivity options that meet the aspirations of travelers.

He added that the Russian market is a vital market for Oman Air, noting that this service will contribute to facilitating tourists’ access to Dhofar Governorate.

Al-Mahrouqi said that these seasonal trips are expected to attract at least 7,000 visitors to the city of Salalah during its first season, which will positively impact the hotel sector, tour operators, and local companies in various states of the governorate.

He emphasized that this step is an important milestone in Oman Air's strategy aimed at boosting tourism to Dhofar Governorate throughout the year and expanding its air connectivity with high-growth international markets.
