

SUHAR: The Municipal Council of Al Batinah North Governorate on Wednesday held its tenth meeting of the year, chaired by Mohammed bin Sulaiman al Kindi, Governor of Al Batinah North, and attended by the council members.
During the meeting, the Council reviewed the initiatives and programmes implemented by the Educational Research and Studies Committee at the Directorate-General of Education in the governorate through a presentation by committee specialists. The Council also hosted specialists and organisers of the "Wafaa" (Loyalty) initiative, who presented the team’s vision and mission aimed at providing integrated social, health and entertainment services for the elderly, persons with disabilities and retirees.
The Council examined a report on field visits conducted by the Social Affairs Committee to the Wafaa Centers, the Al Noor Association for the Blind, and the Oman Association for Persons with Disabilities. Additionally, they reviewed the results of the Social Affairs Committee’s fifth meeting.
Furthermore, the Council looked into the results of the Governorate Development Committee meetings concerning several referred topics. These included the establishment of permanent locations to display and sell products from productive families across the governorate’s wilayats, the conceptual design for smart charging stations in the Wilayat of Saham, and the construction of side channels along roads to facilitate the extension of infrastructure utilities. The committee also discussed the challenges facing local sports and cultural teams at the governorate level.
Finally, the Council discussed several responses received from government entities regarding various local matters.
AL BATINAH SOUTH:
The Municipal Council of Al Batinah South Governorate reviewed several service and development topics related to the growth of the governorate’s wilayats during its tenth meeting of 2025. The meeting, chaired by Eng Masoud bin Said al Hashmi, Governor of Al Batinah South and Chairman of the Council, included the approval of the previous meeting’s minutes and discussions on various issues concerning the education sector.
During the session, the Department of Heritage and Tourism delivered a visual presentation outlining the procedures for obtaining licences for guest houses and "Green Inns." This initiative aims to support sustainable tourism within the governorate by regulating these facilities and encouraging local investment in the hospitality sector.
The Council also deliberated on several general matters, including a study to intensify monitoring of animal feed products in commercial shops and farms. Furthermore, the meeting addressed the planning of sites for commercial, industrial and service centres in villages and areas distant from city centres to ensure balanced development. Members also reviewed the annual report for 2025 and the report from the Committee for Governorate Development regarding their field visit to various projects in the Wilayat of Barka. — ONA
