MUSCAT: The Muscat Municipal Council held its tenth meeting for the year, under the chairmanship of Sayyid Saud bin Hilal al Busaidy, Governor of Muscat and Chairman of Muscat Municipal Council, in presence of Ahmed bin Mohammed al Humaidi, Chairman of Muscat Municipality.

The Municipal Council reviewed Muscat Municipality’s statement regarding the general programme of Muscat Nights 2026 scheduled to take place from January 1 to 31.

The statement said that the events of Muscat Nights will be held in key locations to ensure broader community access. The events include entertainment, cultural, and community performances, interactive activities, specialized tournaments under the umbrella of an integrated programme designed to meet public expectations. The festival is expected to attract visitors, stimulate economic activity and create supportive platforms for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).

As part of efforts at developing the business environment and improving investor experience, the Municipal Council reviewed Muscat Municipality’s statement regarding the change in the inspection methodology of commercial activities from pre- oversight to post-oversight. The change is aimed to simplify business procedures and enhance the efficiency of the oversight system, fostering a more flexible and competitive economy. Muscat Municipality clarified in its statement that the implementation of the new methodology addresses challenges related to lengthy procedural periods and the frequency of field visits. It will enhance transparency, standardize procedures, and reduce operational costs for both the public and private sectors.

The Municipal Council approved the minutes of its previous meeting and the recommendations regarding Muscat Municipality’s statement on connecting buildings to broadband services. This included the regulatory and legislative frameworks related to service provision mechanisms.

The Municipal Council reviewed the outcomes of the Social Affairs Committee meeting concerning the regulation of housing for single, unaccompanied expatriate workers in residential neighborhoods and the related regulatory and social aspects.
