MUSCAT: Sultan Qaboos University (SQU) reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening academic and cultural collaboration on Sunday as it welcomed a high-level delegation from the Council for Australian-Arab Relations (CAAR).

The delegation, led by Prof Hala Zreiqat, a renowned biomedical engineer, and Prof Ali Abbas, an expert in engineering and innovation, was received by HH Sayyid Dr Fahd bin Al Julanda al Said, Vice-Chancellor of SQU.

Discussions focused on deepening cooperation in education, research and cultural exchange, underscoring the shared goal of advancing sustainable development and innovation.

Sayyid Dr Fahd stressed SQU’s role in Oman’s transition to a knowledge-based economy, in line with Oman Vision 2040, and praised the achievements of SQU graduates who are contributing to the nation’s progress across various sectors.

Prof Zreiqat highlighted the power of education and research in shaping future generations, while Prof Abbas emphasised Australia’s knowledge economy model, grounded in entrepreneurship, sustainability and cultural preservation.

Both underscored the value of universities in preparing youth for leadership roles in a rapidly changing world.

The meeting also explored opportunities for joint research, faculty exchanges and student mobility, reflecting optimism for stronger bilateral ties between Omani and Australian institutions.

By fostering global partnerships, SQU continues to strengthen its role as a hub for knowledge creation and dissemination, positioning itself as a leader in higher education and research in the region. The visit with CAAR set the stage for deeper collaboration rooted in innovation, sustainability and cultural understanding.
