MUSCAT: Oman and Egypt have discussed strengthening cooperation in special economic zones, free zones and industrial cities, as part of efforts to deepen economic integration between the two countries.

The talks were held during a meeting between Shaikh Dr Ali bin Masoud al Sunaidy, Chairman of the Public Authority for Special Economic Zones and Free Zones (OPAZ), and Lieutenant General Engineer Kamel Abdel-Hadi al Wazir, Egypt’s Deputy Prime Minister for Industrial Development and Minister of Industry and Transport.

The two sides reviewed investment opportunities across economic and free zones in both countries and explored prospects for developing joint cooperation to encourage the establishment of new economic projects in a range of sectors. Discussions also covered the exchange of expertise and technologies to enhance the competitiveness and attractiveness of these zones for investors.

The meeting examined ways to maximise the use of production chains and raw materials available in existing factories, with a focus on strengthening industrial integration and increasing value-added manufacturing. Mechanisms to facilitate the movement of goods and industries between economic, free and industrial zones in Oman and Egypt were also discussed, with the aim of boosting bilateral trade.

Both sides stressed the importance of sustained coordination and joint action, as well as identifying partnership opportunities to further strengthen economic ties between the two brotherly nations.

The meeting was attended by Yasser Mohamed Ahmed Shaaban, Ambassador of Egypt to the Sultanate of Oman, along with a number of officials from both sides. — ONA
