The Directorate-General of Social Development in Al Dakhiliyah Governorate organised a celebration to mark the International Day of Persons with Disabilities at the Oman Across Ages Museum in the Wilayat of Manah under the theme 'Building Inclusive Communities for Persons with Disabilities to Promote Social Progress'. The event was held under the auspices of Dr Mohammed bin Ali bin Said Zabanoot, Wali of Adam.
The celebration brought together officials, families, and community members in an atmosphere filled with sincerity, warmth, and genuine human connection, reflecting the values of inclusion and social solidarity. The event highlighted the importance of empowering persons with disabilities and recognising their abilities as active contributors to society.
Khamis bin Said al Amri, Director of the Department of Persons with Disabilities, said: "Observing this day aims to raise awareness about disability issues and change prevailing perceptions. The role of innovation in shaping a fair and accessible world, creating inclusive environments, is essential to ensuring equal opportunities and meaningful participation for all." The event featured a series of moving performances, including a poetry recital titled 'My Beloved Homeland' by student Abdullah bin Abdulaziz al Shukaili from Al Wafa Centre for the Rehabilitation of Persons with Disabilities in Bahla. The centre also presented a performance entitled “Happiness Syndrome", showcasing students with Down syndrome in a heartfelt and joyful display.
A visual presentation highlighted the services provided by Al Wafa Rehabilitation Centres and their role in empowering persons with disabilities to become productive and engaged members of society.
Al Wafa Centre in Nizwa presented a national performance titled “Azm” (Determination), featuring students with autism.
The Wali of Adam honoured individuals who achieved top positions at the governorate level during the Sixth Annual Festival for Persons with Disabilities.
Ahmed bin Salim al Harthy, a visitor to the celebration, said: “What we witnessed today was far more than a ceremony. It was a powerful human message that showed us how honesty, innocence and determination can overcome any barrier when people are given the chance to shine.”
The celebration reaffirmed Al Dakhiliyah Governorate’s commitment to promoting inclusive development, strengthening community awareness, and fostering a society where diversity is embraced and everyone is given the opportunity to thrive.
