Oman Badminton tourney for clubs to begin on Thursday

The Oman Racket Sports Committee (ORSC) is all set to organise the second edition of the Oman Badminton Championship for Clubs in the senior category. The three days event will take place on Thursday and will conclude on Saturday at the Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex in Bausher and is expected to attract wide participation from clubs representing various governorates. This event will continue its efforts to strengthen competitive badminton at club level across the Sultanate of Oman.


The tournament will feature two main events at senior level, singles and doubles, providing players with an opportunity to compete at a high technical standard in a structured and competitive environment. A total of 15 clubs are confirmed to participate in the championship, including Al Amerat, Al Kamil Wal Wafi, Bausher, Oman Club, Seeb, Al Shabab, Sohar, Majees, Salalah, Masirah, Qurayat, Ibri beside other clubs.


The upcoming event will build up on the success of the inaugural edition which concluded with exciting final matches. In the men’s doubles final, Oman Club’s pair Akram al Hajri and Indian player Toshar Kumar claimed the title after defeating Bausher Club’s duo Khalil al Darmaki and Indonesian player Mashiri Fashirousi in straight games. In the men’s singles event of the first edition, Salim al Maqbali of Masirah Club captured the title following a convincing 2-0 victory over Sultan al Shaibani of Al Kamil Wal Wafi Club after he had secured a 21-16 and 21-10 victory.


Meanwhile, the Under-15 category saw Zayid al Hinai of Masirah Club emerge victorious after defeating his teammate Abdulaziz al Hinai in the final.


ORSC continues to build momentum following the recent successful conclusion of the Oman Junior Badminton Championship, which showcased promising talents across multiple age categories and reflected the committee’s renewed focus on grassroots and junior development.


With strong participation expected and competitive matches anticipated, the second edition of the Oman Senior Badminton Championship is poised to further elevate the standard of the sport locally and reinforce Oman’s growing presence on the regional badminton stage.
