MUSCAT, DEC 14
The effects of a low-pressure trough that brought heavy rains to Musandam are expected to continue until Friday.
The General Directorate of Civil Defence and Ambulance in Musandam Governorate continued field operations on Sunday, clearing affected roads and carrying out a precautionary evacuation of a school due to rising water levels to ensure the safety of students and staff.
Active southerly to south-easterly winds have been observed in Muscat and other governorates, accompanied by rainfall. Cloud flow and rainy cells over the Gulf have begun affecting Musandam, with intensification expected along the northern coasts of the Sea of Oman and the adjacent Al Hajar Mountains.
Weather forecaster Ibrahim al Barashdi said cloud advection will continue, bringing isolated rain and chances of thunderstorms. “Rains are also expected in the coastal areas of the Sea of Oman, Al Dhahirah, Al Buraimi, and may extend to Muscat and Al Dakhiliyah,” he explained.
Rainfall in Muscat is expected on Thursday afternoon through Friday morning, while Musandam could receive the highest amounts, ranging from 10 to 35 mm. During thunderstorms, wave heights in the Sea of Oman may reach 2.5 metres.
