Muscat: The Royal Oman Police have arrested two European tourists in Muscat Governorate in connection with an organised jewellery theft valued at approximately one million Omani rials.
According to officials, the suspects had entered Oman on tourist visas and stayed at a hotel near jewellery stores in the Al Ghubrah area, where they surveyed the location and planned the crime. At around 4:00 a.m., they allegedly breached the rear wall of a jewellery store using a mechanical demolition tool, stole large quantities of jewellery, forced open the safe, and took the cash inside.
Police investigations, carried out by the Police Command in Muscat Governorate in cooperation with the Directorate General of Inquiries and Criminal Investigation, led to the arrest of the suspects. Authorities also seized the tools used in the break-in and recovered the stolen jewellery, which had been hidden on a beach in the Seifa area after being transported by a rented boat under the guise of a leisure trip.
The Royal Oman Police confirmed that legal procedures against the suspects are underway.
