MUSCAT: The Ministry of Information hosted a dialogue session on Wednesday titled ‘Digital Transformation with a New Vision... Inclusive Empowerment... and Real Inspirational Models’. The session, held at the ministry’s theatre, brought together employees from various government entities and project partners. It aimed to simplify the concept of digital transformation, explore its real-world applications, and highlight the opportunities and challenges it brings while engaging participants in shaping the next phase of the national transformation journey.
The session, moderated by Khalid al Balushi from the Ministry of Information, brought together speakers including Kawthar bint Ali al Hinaiyah, Head of Digital Transformation Programmes at the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology; Shaikha bint Mahmood al Jassasiyah, Head of Content at the Unified Government Services Portal at the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology, and Eng Khalid bin Ghulam al Zadjali, Head of the Digital Transformation Office at the Foreign Ministry. The programme also included an inspiring story by Mohammed bin Salim al Sarmi from Oxy.
Eng Al Zadjali spoke about the integration of digital systems across government institutions, explaining that full integration occurs in phases and requires clear governance. He said that digital transformation is an ongoing journey that needs all systems to grow in a coordinated way. He also highlighted that artificial intelligence is “a double-edged sword” that must be used carefully and under proper policies.
Shaikha bint Mahmood al Jassasiyah discussed the concept of digital accessibility and its vital role in ensuring that persons with disabilities and older adults can use digital services effectively. She said that applying accessibility standards ensures that the digital experience is “designed so everyone can use it,” adding that Oman’s progress is linked to involving users in designing and improving services.
Kawthar bint Ali al Hinaiyah talked about the challenges of managing change, stressing the need for dedicated and empowered transformation teams, along with clear procedures and governance frameworks that accelerate organisational progress. She highlighted the importance of continuous assessment and building a culture of learning and flexibility, noting that “digital transformation will not stop... new developments will always emerge.”
Mohammed al Sarmi delivered a motivational speech that resonated strongly with the audience. Sharing his personal journey of change and resilience, he emphasised the power of purpose and optimism.
He stated, “History is shaped by those who believe in their mission... not by those who wait for conditions to be ideal.” He added, “I believe in possibility... in beauty... and I never allowed anyone to steal my smile,” encouraging attendees to embrace change as a pathway to growth.
The session ended with an open discussion where speakers answered questions about improving digital systems and supporting the role of people in the transformation, closing with a message of moving towards a more accessible and effective digital future.
