Deccan Eagles crowned DPL champions

MUSCAT: Deccan Eagles, captained by Dr Atif Hussain, were crowned the winners while Deccan Royals led by Rafeeq finished runners-up at the eighth Deccani Premier League Cricket Tournament final held at the Military Technological College recently.


GV Srinivas, Indian Ambassador to Oman, was the chief guest and Abdullah al Hilali, Fifa referee and Oman football coach, was the guest of honour. Mansoor Sabri welcomed the chief guest.


Organised by the Hyderabadi community in Oman and presented by Salim Mohiuddin, the Deccani Premier League Cricket witnessed a highly enthusiastic participation from all the teams.


Batting first, Deccan Royals made 44 runs in 9.2 overs for the loss of 10 wickets. In response, Deccan Eagles scored 46 runs in 4 overs for the loss of 1 wicket. Abdullah al Hilali, the guest of honour, was impressed by the high standards of tournament and assured his full support in future tournaments.


Man of the series was Mohsin Shareef, whereas Rafeeq and Mohsin Shareef were adjudged best batsman and best bowler respectively.


The ambassador, who was impressed with the large turnout of the spectators that included Indian and Omani fans and their families, appreciated the impressive organisation of the tournament and the good cricket played in the action-packed final matches.


He also applauded the tremendous hard work put in by Zaheer and his team Mirza Zulkhadar Baig, Syed Naimath, Zaki Ahmed, Fasi uddin, Dr Atif, Ali, Junaid, Zain and Kabeer who worked tirelessly to make the event a grand success.


He also congratulated the teams for making this season's tournament a turnaround success and taking it to greater heights. In the end, National Anthem of Oman was played to mark the National Day Celebration.


Sohail khan, a social catalyst, briefed about the DPL. Dawood, Masi, Samad and Mohsin, Aleem and Habib gave away prizes to various Man of the Match winners and other performers. Amjad of Oman Phone gave away the gift hampers. Afzal was the physiotherapist at the event.
