

General Joseph Aoun, President of the Lebanese Republic, will arrive today on an official two-day visit to the Sultanate of Oman. A statement to this effect was issued by the Diwan of Royal Court, reading as follows: "In a manifestation of the distinguished fraternal relations binding the Sultanate of Oman and the Lebanese Republic, General Joseph Aoun, President of the Lebanese Republic, will pay an official visit to the Sultanate of Oman on Tuesday and Wednesday December 9-10. The visit comes within the context of enhancing the joint cooperation between Oman and Lebanon in a manner that achieves further progress and prosperity to serve the common interests of the two countries and meet their aspirations. During the visit, the two leaderships will exchange views on several matters that promote the joint Arab action, in addition to discussing a set of regional and international developments."
The official visit of President General Joseph Aoun and his meeting with His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik hold special importance in affirming the keenness of the two countries’ leaderships on promoting the bilateral relations and pushing them towards wider horizons.
The relations between Oman and Lebanon have been distinguished, since the opening of Oman's first embassy in Beirut in 1972, by their strength and robustness, rooted in Arab and historical ties.
Oman's embassy in Lebanon serves as a link between government bodies in both countries to serve common interests. It works to activate economic diplomacy by encouraging investments, facilitating communication between the two sides, visits by economic delegations, and supporting companies' participation in joint exhibitions and events.
Oman and Lebanon have enjoyed solid trade relations since ancient times. These commercial links have contributed to enhancing cultural, intellectual and historical exchange between the Omani and Lebanese peoples, creating an environment of cooperation and communication across ages.
The volume of trade exchange between Oman and Lebanon during the first half of 2025 saw a growth of 29.4 per cent, reaching approximately RO 8.5 million, compared to RO 6.6 million during the same period in 2024, according to statistics from the National Centre for Statistics and Information. —ONA
