MUSCAT: Digital transformation is advancing rapidly across the Sultanate of Oman, building an integrated digital ecosystem that enhances government efficiency, elevates service quality for citizens and residents and supports the nation’s vision for an innovative, interconnected and sustainable future.
Among all governorates, Muscat stands out as a model of excellence, achieving major milestones and pioneering projects that reflect strong investment in modern technologies and artificial intelligence.
Dr Ibrahim bin Ahmed al Kharousi, Head of the Digital Transformation Team for the Muscat Governorate, stated that between January and October 2025, the governorate recorded a significant digital leap, completing 234,251 digital transactions and digitising nine new government services.
He noted that several key digital initiatives and projects were carried out during the same period. These included the completion of the first phase of consulting services for the Unified Municipal System and the tendering of its implementation, upgrades to the ‘My Municipality’ mobile application and the Muscat Municipality website, as well as the enhancement of the SMS gateway and electronic payment platform. Additional advancements included developing technologies for the Muscat Communications Center, installing smart traps for Aedes mosquitoes, deploying electronic traps for stray animals and adopting modern irrigation systems.
In the area of digital service enablement, Dr Al Kharousi highlighted the activation of electronic certification for lease contract registration, the use of artificial intelligence to monitor and issue violations for paid parking areas, the launch of a software development incubator environment, and a field inspection follow-up service (health and technical).
These steps, he said, strengthen digital oversight, accelerate service delivery, and ensure data accuracy. – ONA
