MUSCAT, DEC 6

The Oman Stroke Society, in partnership with the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism, inaugurated the eighth edition of the Oman Stroke Conference, held from December 4–6 under the auspices of Eng Ibrahim bin Said al Kharousi, Under-Secretary of the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism for Heritage.

During the event, Memorandums of Understanding were signed with Stroke Societies from Austria, Egypt, India, Iran, and other international organisations.

Chaired by Dr Amal al Hashmi, Senior Consultant in Neurology and President and Founder of the Oman Stroke Society, the agreements aim to enhance training and education, support scientific research and coordinate joint conferences — strengthening medical capabilities and elevating treatment standards.

Dr Amal highlighted that the conference provides a valuable platform for exchanging expertise with leading global specialists. This year’s event hosted renowned neurologists from Harvard University, Johns Hopkins University, the University of Calgary, and other reputable institutions across Türkiye, Australia, Italy, Iran, Egypt, India, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Qatar, Slovenia, Azerbaijan and Oman.

Over three days, the conference delivered extensive scientific sessions featuring the latest developments in stroke care, covering thrombotic and haemorrhagic stroke management. Discussions also explored advancements in robotics, artificial intelligence, and innovative treatment approaches shaping the future of stroke medicine.

It was agreed that Oman will host the first edition of a new regional stroke forum in 2026, with subsequent editions approved for Egypt and Iran.

Dr Said al Maawali, Consultant Neurologist and Head of the Scientific Posters Committee, noted significant participation from Egypt and Saudi Arabia. Registered nurse Noura al Jahwari added that the conference offered an exceptional programme tailored for allied health professionals, reflecting the Society’s commitment to creating an inclusive scientific platform.
