MUSCAT: The closing ceremony marking 400 years of maritime relations between the Sultanate of Oman and the Kingdom of the Netherlands was held on Sunday. The event was organised by the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in cooperation with the Foreign Ministry. It celebrated the rich maritime and cultural heritage forged over centuries of trade and cooperation between the two friendly nations.

In his remarks, Shaikh Khalifa bin Ali al Harthy, Under-Secretary of the Foreign Ministry for Political Affairs, lauded the enduring maritime ties and highlighted the growth and progress in bilateral relations across various fields.

Maartje Peters, Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to Oman, traced the origins of Omani-Dutch relations, noting the historic visit of the first Dutch ship to Muscat in 1624, a milestone that laid the foundation for cooperation that continues to flourish today. The ceremony was attended by officials, ambassadors and members of the diplomatic corps. – ONA
