Al Rahba horse track witnesses thrilling races

BARKA: The Al Rahba Horse Racing Track in the Wilayat of Barka hosted the sixth race meet of the season on Saturday, delivering an exciting evening of competition across eight diverse and action packed races, the event attracted a strong field of purebred Arabian and Thoroughbred horses, alongside an enthusiastic crowd that enjoyed a vibrant racing atmosphere.


The opening race, dedicated to purebred Arabians, set a strong tone for the event as Moqoot clinched first place under jockey Ghassan bin Yahya al Sahbani, following his victory, Al Sahbani expressed his delight, saying, “Moqoot is a powerful horse with exceptional control, we followed the race plan perfectly, which helped us maintain the lead.”


The horse is trained by Mohammed bin Issa al Balushi, Azzam ME finished second, while SSR Sarab came in third.


Races two and three, allocated for locally bred purebred Arabians, saw outstanding back to back victories from jockey Al Mutasim bin Saeed al Balushi aboard Al Dhafer SB and Al Shalli SB, both trained by Badr bin Mohammed al Hajri, competition remained strong as Mohareb IZ and Bahr Al Afiyah secured the remaining podium spots in race two, while Aasifat Al Shamal and SSR Al Nayef followed in race three.

At the end of the event, retired Brigadier Abdulrazzaq al Shahrouzi, Vice-President of the Oman Equestrian and Racing Federation crowned the winners.

The fourth race witnessed the remarkable performance of mare Mutashaddidah, guided to victory by jockey Tareq bin Ibrahim al Azri and trained by Sultan bin Mohammed al Balushi. Hamzah and ZF Al Sagaf claimed second and third places respectively.


In the fifth race for Thoroughbreds, Belardo Joy ridden by Mazin bin Mubarak al Yahyai and trained by Mohammed bin Salem al Rasbi dominated the competition, finishing ahead of Future Vision and Pride of Joy.


Race six highlighted the triumph of Al Majur, ridden by Moanis bin Salem al Siyabi and trained by Hassan bin Mohammed al Falahi, Muhtashim and Al Rabih completed the top three.


One of the evening’s most thrilling moments came in race seven for Thoroughbreds, where jockey Abdulrahman bin Talib al Farsi delivered a superb performance aboard Dubawi Sand, trained by Othman bin Rashid al Hashmi. Al Farsi said after the race: “Dubawi Sand handled the pace perfectly, It was a tough contest, but his strong finishing kick made the difference” El Patriotta finished second, followed by Prima Summer in third.


The evening concluded with an impressive win in race eight by Nisal Al Sham, ridden by Adam bin Talib al Balushi and trained by Mohammed bin Suleiman al Balushi, who expressed his satisfaction “Nisal Al Sham was in top condition, The team worked hard preparing the horse, and this victory reflects that effort.”


The sixth meet at Al Rahba Track reaffirmed its reputation as a premier venue showcasing the growing depth of Oman’s equestrian talent, as trainers, jockeys and owners continue to elevate the competitiveness of the national racing circuit.
