MUSCAT: The opening day of the 2025-2026 annual camel racing season kicked off on Saturday with exciting competitions held simultaneously at Al Abyad in the Wilayat of Sinaw, Al Felaij in the Wilayat of Barka, and Al Bashayer in the Wilayat of Adam. The action-packed day featured 24 rounds at Al Abyad, 27 rounds at Al Felaij, and several rounds at Al Bashayer, including three races for human riders over 2 km, attracting large crowds and showcasing the finest Omani-bred camels.
In the Hagayeg (2 km) category, the top winner at Al Abyad track in the Wilayat of Sinaw was Al Woslah, owned by Ahmed al Wahibi, clocking an impressive time of 2:52:47. Meanwhile, at Al Felaij track in the Wilayat of Barka, the first-place camel was Al Abirat, owned by Mohammed al Qanoubi, finishing the race in 3:05:03.
On Sunday, the second day of the 2025-2026 annual camel racing season will continue with a full schedule across Al Felaij, Al Bashayer, and Al Abyad tracks. Competitions will include the Idha’ (4 km) category with four rounds at each track, followed by races for the Thanaya (5 km) category. The day will also feature contests for older camels in the Al Houl and Al Zamoul (5 km) categories. Each track will host multiple rounds, allowing camel owners and trainers to compete for top positions and showcase the finest Omani-bred camels.
