MUSCAT: The Oman Golf Association (OGA) concluded the National Day Golf Championship last Friday at the Ghala Golf Club, marking a festive sporting occasion held in conjunction with the Sultanate of Oman’s celebrations of the National Day.


The event drew wide participation from golfers across various categories, creating a competitive and vibrant atmosphere that reflected the sport’s ongoing growth in Oman.


The tournament witnessed strong performances and close competition among the participants. Sri Lankan golfer Ruwan Jayasinghe secured the overall title in the Gross category after delivering consistent and impressive play throughout the event. In the Net division, HH Sayyid Azzan bin Mohammed al Said emerged victorious following a highly competitive contest.


In the Under-12 Juniors category, Yousef al Rimahi claimed the title after showcasing remarkable skill and composure, earning praise from spectators and officials alike. The championship also featured several promising young female players, including a standout junior who attracted attention with her notable performance an encouraging sign for the continued rise of women’s participation in golf.

NEW GENERATION


Fayez Mohammed Riyadh, OGA Vice-Chairman, expressed his admiration for the strong technical levels displayed by the players, emphasised that the championship forms an essential part of the OGA's ongoing efforts to promote the sport and nurture emerging talent in the Sultanate of Oman. He added that the OGA is committed to expanding its youth development programmes in cooperation with clubs and golf academies to prepare a new generation capable of representing Oman in regional and international tournaments.


The closing ceremony was attended by sports officials, enthusiasts and families of the players, who gathered to honour the winners and celebrate this special national occasion.


The Oman Golf Association extended its appreciation to all participants, sponsors and organisers, reaffirming that the National Day Championship has become a highly anticipated annual event that embodies both sporting excellence and national pride.
