The excitement reaches its peak at the Oman 2025 World Cup of Snooker as the crowning moment draws near, following the completion of the semifinal line-up on Wednesday evening. It was a day that showcased high-level performances and fierce battles, reshaping the contours of the race for the singles title.
On Thursday, the 'Active Oman' hall at the Oman Automobile Association is preparing to launch the team event, marking the opening of a new chapter expected to bring intense competition and excitement through to the final day on November 23.
England’s Harvey Chandler was the first to book his spot in the singles semifinals after delivering a commanding performance to defeat Ukraine’s Denys Khmelevskyi 4–1. Chandler appeared in top form, focused, composed, and fully in control from the opening frame to the last, relying on accurate long-range shots and an exceptional ability to read the smallest details on the table.
Meanwhile, Hong Kong China’s Chang Yu Kiu claimed the second semifinal berth in one of the most thrilling matches of the tournament, securing a dramatic 4–3 victory over Iran’s Amir Sarkhosh. Despite taking a 3–0 lead, Chang was pushed into a decider after a strong comeback from Sarkhosh, but ultimately sealed the win with remarkable composure and nerves of steel.
Pakistan’s Asjad Iqbal delivered one of the most dominant displays of the championship, sweeping India’s Pankaj Advani 4–0 in a match that signalled Iqbal’s return to peak form in recent years. His control was evident from start to finish, combining fierce determination with impressive precision under pressure.
The surprises continued with France’s Nicolas Mortreux booking his place in the medal round after a deserved 4–1 victory over Hong Kong China’s Nansen Wan. Mortreux appeared at his best, blending calmness, focus, and accurate mid-range shots, adding another milestone to the strong performances he has shown since the World Championship in Doha.
