MUSCAT: The Oman Strategic Leadership Conference opened on Monday in Muscat, highlighting the growing importance of strategic thinking in modern leadership across government and industry. The two-day event is organised by Al Asayel Development Company in cooperation with the Ministry of Labour.

The opening ceremony was held under the auspices of HH Sayyid Marwan bin Turki al Said, Governor of Dhofar. The conference aims to promote the adoption of strategic planning as a practical methodology for guiding decision-making, strengthening institutional alignment, and raising overall performance.

In his keynote remarks, Dr Aflah bin Said al Hadhrami, Managing Director of Petroleum Development Oman (PDO), underscored the value of the conference as a platform for sharing expertise, anticipating future trends, and developing solutions tailored to both local and regional contexts. He noted that the event brings together analysts, speakers, and thought leaders from within and outside the Sultanate to examine experiences and forward-looking strategies.

Global leadership expert Dr John Maxwell, also delivering a keynote address, discussed a range of themes central to effective leadership. These included the role of shared values in uniting communities, building communication frameworks capable of activating strategy through compelling messaging, and the importance of agility in navigating an increasingly volatile global landscape. He also outlined pathways for developing future leaders capable of driving transformation and sustaining competitiveness.

The conference continues today with broad participation from experts, specialists, and decision-makers from the public and private sectors. The programme features a series of working papers, panel discussions, and presentations exploring current and future approaches to strategic leadership and institutional development. — ONA
