The preliminary round of the WTT Star Contender Muscat 2025 will begin on Monday at the both main halls of the Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex in Bausher. Oman’s paddlers including: Muhannad al Balushi, who recently emerged as champions of domestic Men’s singles, Ahmed al Riyami, Loqman al Farsi and Bilal al Rashdi are in best shape to compete in the event.

Al Riyami is the only Omani player secured spot in main draw of Men’s singles which will take place on Wednesday while Muhanad will play in preliminary round of Men’s singles. The duo Loqman and Bilal will play in Men’s double beside the pair Muhanad and Ahmed.

Oman head coach, Omid Shams Shahbabaki, affirmed that the players in best shape after series of an intensive training camps in recent weeks. “ The team players went in a rigorous programme of morning and evening sessions that included technical drills including specific strokes like forehand and backhand drives, serves, and pushes. The tactical training included studying opponents’ weaknesses, analysing their reactions to different types of serves and speeds, and implementing sudden strategic shifts to exploit gaps with powerful or well-placed shots,” he added

“ Several players from the squad have previous experience in WTT contender events making the WTT Star Contender an ideal platform for them to further enhance their skills against high-ranking opponents. This event will be particularly valuable for Bilal al Rashdi, who is competing in his first international tournament and stands to benefit significantly as he continues to progress,” he said

“ The development and consistent improvement of Ahmed al Riyami, especially after securing several domestic titles and representing Oman in recent international events, including the Asian Championship in India. Al Riyami’s direct placement in the main draw will provide a strong motivational boost and a valuable opportunity to maximise his technical gains from this major global event,” he added
