NIZWA, NOV 8
In observance of World Diabetes Day on November 14, the College of Nursing at Sultan Qaboos University organised a Community Diabetes Wellness Day on Friday at Al Aqur in Nizwa.
The initiative was held in cooperation with Nizwa Health City, the Directorate-General of Health Services in Al Dakhiliyah Governorate, and Nizwa Polyclinic.
This year’s global theme, ‘Know More and Do More for Diabetes at Work,’ underscored the importance of awareness, early detection, and preventive practices in both daily life and workplace settings. More than twenty interactive educational and screening stations were coordinated by faculty and students from the College of Nursing, in collaboration with healthcare professionals. The stations offered guidance on diabetes management, medication adherence, foot and kidney health, and maternal well-being related to gestational diabetes.
Dr Nasser al Salmi, Head of the Adult Health and Critical Care Department at the College, emphasised that enhancing community awareness is vital to reducing the burden of diabetes and promoting healthier lifestyles. He noted that informed decision-making plays a crucial role in preventing complications and improving quality of life. The event drew wide participation from individuals and families, encouraging continued community engagement in preventive healthcare efforts.
