Muscat: The Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion (MoCIIP) has cautioned social media users and online platforms against promoting unlicensed tourism establishments, including hotels, rest houses, and green inns that have not been approved by the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism.

In a statement, the MoCIIP said that it had observed some social media accounts and electronic websites marketing such establishments without obtaining the necessary authorisations. This, the ministry affirmed, is a violation of Clause (13) of Article (9) of the Regulation Governing the Practice of Marketing and Promotion on Electronic Websites and Social Media Platforms (Ministerial Decision No. 2022/619).

The regulation clearly stipulates that: “It is prohibited to market or promote any goods or services that require prior approval from the competent authorities, or for unlicensed projects, or counterfeit goods.”

The MoCIIP emphasised the importance of adhering to the provisions of this regulation, urging all users and content creators to refrain from promoting unlicensed establishments or services.

The ministry further warned that legal action will be taken against any individuals or entities found in violation of the regulation
