MUSCAT, NOV 5
In line with the principle of transparency and partnership with media institutions, the Majlis Ash’shura held its Annual Media Meeting 2025 on Wednesday at its headquarters, with wide participation from representatives of various media organisations in the Sultanate of Oman. The event aimed to enhance communication with the media sector and open a constructive dialogue that reflects the Shura’s role as an active partner in the national decision-making process.
The meeting was opened by Khalid bin Hilal al Maawali, Chairman of Majlis Ash’shura, who emphasised that the ninth term coincides with the start of the 10th Five-Year Plan and Oman Vision 2040, a road map that embodies the aspirations of Oman and its people. He said the Shura played an important role in translating this vision into reality through its legislative and oversight powers, in coordination with the Council of Ministers and the State Council. “The media plays a vital role in showing the real picture of the Majlis’s work and its service to the nation,” he said. “We value your partnership because it helps connect the public with what the Majlis is doing for the country’s progress.” Shaikh Ahmed bin Mohammed al Nadabi, Secretary-General of Majlis Ash’shura, presented a visual report highlighting the council’s performance during (2019–2023). He shared that the Shura had completed 14 draft laws, of which 13 became laws through Royal Decrees, including major legislations such as the Media Law, the Income Tax Law for Individuals, and the Law on the Protection of Bank Deposits. “Our goal is to make sure that the Shura contributes to national development in a way that reflects Oman’s vision and priorities... Through continuous meetings, reports and studies, we aim to serve the public interest and maintain strong cooperation with all government institutions.” The meeting also included a lively discussion between Shura members and journalists on national issues, including the recent Ministry of Labour decision on domestic workers. Members explained that such ministerial decisions fall under executive regulations, yet the Shura had already studied the decision and its implications, working closely with the relevant authorities to ensure a balanced approach that safeguards both social values and human rights.
An exhibition accompanied the event, displaying key statistics and data that reflected the Shura’s legislative and oversight work and its efforts to address important national issues.
Through this annual meeting, the Majlis Ash'shura reaffirmed its commitment to transparency, open communication and strong media cooperation, ensuring that its message and achievements reach the public with clarity and credibility.
