His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik and King Felipe VI of the Kingdom of Spain and Queen Letizia held a private meeting at the Zarzuela Palace in Madrid on Tuesday evening.
The meeting served to deliberate upon several political and economic matters of mutual interest to both nations, during which perspectives were exchanged regarding developments in current regional and international affairs. The discussions further emphasised the paramount importance of broadening the scope of partnership and investment to fortify the economies of both countries.
The meeting was attended from the Omani side by HH Sayyid Shihab bin Tarik al Said, Deputy Prime Minister for Defence Affairs, and Sayyid Badr bin Hamad al Busaidy, Foreign Minister. Representing the Spanish side were Jose Manuel Albares, Minister of Foreign Affairs, and Francisco Javier, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Spain to the Sultanate of Oman.
Earlier, an official reception ceremony was held at the Royal Palace in Madrid for His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik on the occasion of his state visit to the Kingdom of Spain.
Upon the arrival of His Majesty the Sultan's motorcade at the precincts to the Royal Palace, it was escorted by a cavalcade of the Royal Cavalry’s knights. His Majesty was then received by King Felipe VI of the Kingdom of Spain and Queen Letizia. The Royal couple welcomed His Majesty the Sultan and extended their wishes for a successful visit and a pleasant stay in the Kingdom of Spain to him and the accompanying official delegation.
Thereafter, His Majesty the Sultan, accompanied by King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia, ascended the dais of honour, during which the Omani Royal Anthem and the Spanish National Anthem were played, while the artillery fired a 21-gun salute in honour of His Majesty the Sultan. Afterwards, His Majesty inspected the Guard of Honour.
After that, His Majesty the Sultan shook hands with senior Spanish officials who welcomed him, while King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia shook hands with the official Omani delegation. His Majesty the Sultan and the King of Spain then witnessed the March-Past of the Guard of Honour to the accompaniment of military musical pieces.
After the conclusion of the official reception protocols, His Majesty the Sultan and the King of Spain held a cordial meeting at the Royal Palace. - ONA
