Under the auspices of Abdullah bin Salim al Harthy, Under-Secretary of the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth has launched the third edition of the 'Youth Ambassadors' programme, a live United Nations simulation featuring 103 participants from 14 Arab countries.
The initiative aims to cultivate a new generation of young Arab leaders capable of representing regional identity in international forums while contributing to comprehensive political, economic, social and environmental development.
Hilal al Siyabi, Director-General of Youth at the Ministry, stated that the programme allows participants to refine leadership and diplomatic skills, enhance dialogue, negotiation, and teamwork abilities, and gain an in-depth understanding of the UN system. “Youth are not merely an age group; they are a renewable force and genuine partners in shaping the nation’s present and future prosperity,” he added.
This year, participants engaged directly with international organisations through sessions led by experts from the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR), preparing them to undertake official roles that amplify their positive impact on global issues.
Al Siyabi emphasised that collaboration with the Foreign Ministry, the Sultan Qaboos Higher Centre for Culture and Science, and the Ministry of Finance was instrumental in the programme’s success.
Salmah al Rashdi, a member of the project team, highlighted that the programme equips youth with public-speaking and media skills, practical knowledge of diplomatic mechanisms, and an understanding of UN councils. The curriculum included training workshops on negotiation, diplomacy and drafting national positions, as well as simulations of the Human Rights Council and Security Council with a focus on climate change.
Cultural and tourism activities supplemented the diplomatic training, offering participants an immersive experience of Omani heritage. Participants praised the programme for fostering intercultural exchange, building confidence and strengthening professional networks across Arab nations.
Sulaiman al Salhi, an Omani participant, said, “The programme equips us with vital diplomatic competencies to represent our countries effectively at regional and international levels.”
Hassan Younis from Lebanon described the experience as “inspiring, exceptionally organised, and an opportunity to learn from distinguished Omani and international diplomats.”
