CAIRO: On behalf of His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik, HH Sayyid Theyazin bin Haitham al Said, Minister of Culture, Sports and Youth, attended the official opening ceremony of the Grand Egyptian Museum on Saturday evening. Upon his arrival at the museum, HH Sayyid Theyazin was received by President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi of the Arab Republic of Egypt, his spouse and some Egyptian government officials.

Prior to the beginning of the ceremony, a commemorative photograph was taken of the Egyptian President with the heads of the delegations participating in the opening ceremony.

His Highness witnessed the opening ceremony, which included a visual presentation about the museum's contents. The museum houses over fifty thousand artifacts representing various eras of Egyptian history, a scientific restoration center, educational and cultural zones, and open gardens. The ceremony also featured musical and theatrical performances embodying Egypt's ancient civilization.

HH Sayyid Theyazin expressed his profound honour at having represented His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik at the inauguration ceremony of the Grand Egyptian Museum. He emphasised that this monumental achievement reflects the new Egypt's vision to safeguard its human heritage and present it through a contemporary lens, positioning the nation among the leading countries that successfully balance cultural authenticity and modern innovation in the fields of culture and museums.

HH Sayyid Theyazin affirmed that the Sultanate of Oman views this monumental achievement with profound pride and honour, noting that it represents not only Egypt but the entire Arab world. He described the project as an inspirational milestone that strengthens the presence of Arab culture on the global stage and establishes a foundational platform for intra-Arab cultural cooperation in heritage, archaeology, and museum management. He emphasised that it offers a significant opportunity to construct enduring bridges of understanding and knowledge exchange among cultural institutions throughout the Arab world.

His Highness concluded his statement by extending his congratulations to the Arab Republic of Egypt, its leadership, and its people for this monumental cultural achievement. He noted that this historic moment stands as a testament to Egypt's enduring legacy of accomplishments, expressing his sincere wishes for the nation's continued prosperity and brilliance in its cultural, civilizational and developmental pursuits.

President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi of the Arab Republic of Egypt, delivered a speech in which he welcomed the participants at the opening ceremony of the Grand Egyptian Museum in Cairo. He emphasized that this achievement was realized through extensive international cooperation with major global companies to serve as a platform for dialogue and a destination for humanity.

The idea for the Grand Egyptian Museum began in the 1990s, with the foundation stone laid for the project in 2002 at a prime location overlooking the Giza Pyramids. The design concept was inspired by the extension of sunrays emanating from the peaks of the three pyramids, converging at the museum's main structure. - ONA
