Muscat: The Environment Authority (EA) announced  on Thursday the extension of the suspension of issuing permits for the export, import, and re-export of all types of sharks and their derivatives for a period of three months, starting from November 3.

The measure, according to the Authority, is part of ongoing environmental considerations aimed at assessing the status and sustainability of shark populations in Omani waters.

The decision follows continued monitoring and scientific evaluation carried out by the Authority to ensure the conservation of marine biodiversity and the protection of shark species within the Sultanate’s territorial seas.

The EA reaffirmed its commitment to upholding international and national environmental obligations and to implementing measures that promote ecological balance and sustainable use of marine resources.
