HM, Turkish President to enhance ties

MUSCAT: His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik and President Recep Tayyip Erdogan of the Republic of Türkiye emphasised the importance of establishing the Omani-Turkish Coordinating Council as an institutional framework aimed at following up on the implementation of memoranda of understanding and agreements signed between the two countries, as well as enhancing bilateral cooperation across various fields. The joint communique issued on the occasion of the state visit paid by President Erdogan to the Sultanate of Oman reads as follows:


“Within the context of the historical relations and fraternal ties between the Sultanate of Oman and the Republic of Türkiye, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan paid a state visit to the Sultanate of Oman on October 22-23, 2025, in response to an invitation from His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik.


During the visit, the two sides held an official session of talks, during which they discussed ways to enhance bilateral relations and expand areas of cooperation to serve mutual interests, affirming their commitment to developing the strategic partnership between the two countries.


Several agreements and memoranda of understanding were signed during the visit, covering the fields of media and communications, investment, food, information technology, competition and monopoly prevention, industry, science and innovation, military cooperation and defence industries, mining, in addition to an agreement allocating land for the establishment of an educational institution.

The two sides affirmed their keenness to enhance trade, investment, and industrial cooperation, encourage public-private partnerships, and activate the role of joint committees to augment trade exchange.


They also announced the establishment of the Omani-Turkish Coordinating Council as an institutional framework aimed at following up on the implementation of memoranda of understanding and agreements signed between the two countries and enhancing bilateral cooperation across various fields. The two sides also renewed their support for the negotiations on the Free Trade Agreement between Türkiye and the GCC states.


The Sultanate of Oman welcomed the decision of the Republic of Türkiye to exempt Omani citizens from pre-entry visas and announced the exemption of Turkish citizens holding ordinary passports from pre-entry visas to enter the Sultanate of Oman, in a bid to promote bilateral relations and facilitate the movement of individuals.


The two sides lauded the existing cooperation in the fields of culture, heritage and higher education, and emphasised the importance of developing cultural, artistic and academic exchanges between the two countries. The two sides exchanged views on a set of regional and international issues of common interest and affirmed their commitment to backing efforts to achieve security and stability and resolve conflicts through peaceful means in accordance with the principles of international law.


The two sides welcomed the ceasefire in Gaza and stressed the necessity of its full implementation, emphasising that the positive outcomes of the ceasefire negotiations should contribute to achieving the two-state solution.


The two sides expressed their appreciation for the sincere efforts made by Egypt, Qatar, the US and Türkiye in mediation, to put an end to the humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza and create suitable conditions for achieving a just and lasting peace.


President Erdogan lauded the role of Oman in advocating regional dialogue and peace. On his turn, His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik valued the efforts of Türkiye in supporting Arab and Islamic causes.

At the conclusion of the visit, President Erdogan expressed his appreciation for the warm welcome and hospitality, extending an invitation to His Majesty the Sultan to visit Türkiye, which was graciously welcomed by His Majesty.” — ONA
