The under-17 girls’ handball team of Indian School Al Wadi Al Kabir (ISWK) has clinched the first-ever CBSE Nationals medal in team games from the GCC region.
The CBSE National Handball Championship, hosted by JS Public School, Varanasi, concluded with high energy and fierce competition, featuring top schools from across India, who had qualified through regional clusters.
Demonstrating exceptional skill, teamwork and determination, the ISWK girls topped their pool to enter the semifinals. In a tense sudden-death shootout, they narrowly missed a spot in the finals but secured a well-deserved bronze medal, marking a proud moment for the school and the entire Gulf region.
The team was trained under the expert guidance of coach Shifas, a World Masters Games handball bronze medallist, who represented India at the World Masters Games in Taiwan. His mentorship and dedication were instrumental in shaping the team’s success.
This remarkable feat not only highlights the team’s perseverance and sportsmanship but also signifies a historic milestone for Gulf-based CBSE schools, underscoring the growing excellence of international participation in Indian school sports.
A rousing welcome was accorded by the parents of the school to the team of handball national medallists led by the captain and the coach at Ananthapuri Restaurant.
The event also honoured coach Shifas for his exceptional mentorship and pivotal role in the team’s success.
Shifas shared his inspiring journey and expressed heartfelt gratitude to the parents and students for their unwavering support. The evening featured lively performances followed by a celebratory dinner — creating a memorable gathering filled with pride, joy, and community spirit.
Parents noted that this proud moment marks a new milestone for the school and the Gulf’s sporting community, motivating young athletes to aim higher and dream bigger.
